The Brief
Switzerland Tourism partnered with NXT Interactive to create an immersive AR experience at Gardens by the Bay, Singapore, designed to transport visitors on a virtual journey across Switzerland—without ever leaving the Flower Dome.
The objective was to engage visitors through a playful, informative, and interactive experience that showcased the beauty, culture, and connectivity of Switzerland’s “Grand Tour.” The activation aimed to highlight Switzerland’s top travel destinations, cultural icons, and unique modes of transportation while inspiring participants to plan their own real-world Swiss adventure.
The challenge was to design an experience that combined education, exploration, and entertainment—one that could handle high visitor flow, encourage participation across age groups, and seamlessly blend the charm of Swiss tourism with the stunning botanical surroundings of Gardens by the Bay.
Our Solution
NXT Interactive developed the “AR Treasure Hunt – Explore Switzerland,” a location-based augmented reality experience inviting visitors to explore seven Swiss hotspots hidden within the Flower Dome.
Participants accessed the experience via a web-based AR app—no downloads required—and followed a virtual map guiding them to interactive posters marked with Swiss icons such as a mountain, watch, airplane, bus, and boat.
Each scan unlocked an AR treasure, revealing a fun fact, video, or animation about a famous Swiss location or cultural attraction—for example:
“Gornergrat Railway – Europe’s highest open-air cogwheel train journey.”
“Geneva – Home of fine watchmaking since the 16th century.”
“Adelboden – A charming alpine village and ski resort in the Bernese Oberland region.”
Through playful discovery, users learned about the country’s breathtaking landscapes, rich heritage, and interconnected travel system—all while competing for rewards and prizes.
Event Setup
The activation was designed to function seamlessly within the Flower Dome’s indoor garden setting. Key components included:
Strategically placed AR-enabled posters for scanning and discovery
Web-based system optimized for multiple simultaneous users
Custom 3D AR content showcasing authentic Swiss culture, landscapes, and travel experiences
A centralized admin dashboard to manage content, monitor engagement metrics, and announce winners
On-site brand ambassadors guided visitors through the experience, ensuring smooth participation and enhancing the storytelling journey.
Outcome
The AR Treasure Hunt – Explore Switzerland successfully merged technology, tourism, and storytelling, transforming Gardens by the Bay into an immersive Swiss discovery zone.
Thousands of visitors engaged with the experience—scanning, learning, and sharing their AR postcards online—effectively turning the activation into a viral tourism showcase.
By gamifying education and exploration, the project elevated Switzerland Tourism’s brand presence, inspiring participants to envision their own Grand Tour of Switzerland.
The campaign achieved its goal of creating a memorable, interactive, and culturally rich experience, blending curiosity, competition, and connection in one seamless AR adventure.
