Interactive AR Experience: Visualising the Future of Energy

Communicating complex energy systems to a broad audience can be challenging, especially in exhibition environments where visitors engage with content for only a few minutes. For this installation, the goal was to design and develop an Augmented Reality (AR) experience for brand that could translate complex technical concepts into a visually engaging and easy-to-understand story.
Rather than relying on static panels or lengthy explanations, the experience was built as an immersive digital journey that allowed visitors to discover the future potential of Singapore’s town gas network through interactive AR storytelling.

For this installation, the goal was to design and develop an Augmented Reality (AR) experience for brand that could translate complex technical concepts into a visually engaging and easy-to-understand story.
Rather than relying on static panels or lengthy explanations, the experience was built as an immersive digital journey that allowed visitors to discover the future potential of Singapore’s town gas network through interactive AR storytelling.

Concept and Experience Design
The design approach focused on simplifying complex energy ideas into a clear, sequential narrative that visitors could easily follow. The experience needed to work for a wide audience—from industry professionals to the general public—while maintaining visual clarity and engagement.
To achieve this, the experience was structured as a guided visual journey that revealed the transformation of traditional town gas infrastructure into a future-ready energy solution.
Visitors interacted with the experience through a floor-based AR trigger system. A visual prompt invited users to “Tap on the floor”, activating the augmented reality content and beginning the story. This simple interaction made the experience intuitive and approachable without requiring instructions.
Once activated, the AR environment gradually revealed layers of visual content, allowing visitors to explore the narrative step-by-step.
Visual Storytelling Through AR
The AR experience was carefully designed to guide visitors through a structured storyline, ensuring the message was clear even within a short interaction window.
The visual narrative began with familiar concepts—Singapore’s existing town gas infrastructure—before transitioning into new possibilities and innovations.
Through a combination of 3D visualisation, animated graphics, and spatial storytelling, visitors could see how energy systems evolve and connect with emerging technologies such as hydrogen fuel cells and EV charging.
The storytelling was intentionally designed to move from present-day infrastructure to future potential, allowing audiences to understand the transformation journey rather than just the end result.

The content development process involved translating technical information into simple visual metaphors and animations that could communicate ideas instantly.
